Irvine Company Office Properties’ 48-story office tower at 71 South Wacker Drive has been awarded The Outstanding Building of the Year (TOBY) Earth Awards in the local, regional and international categories  from Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA).  The award is recognized as one of  the most prestigious awards for comprehensive and leading sustainability practices in the commercial real estate industry.

Irvine Co., the owner of three of the seven trophy towers rising in Downtown Chicago, inked more than 20 leases accounting for more than 300,000 square feet of office space. The locations were One North Wacker, 300 North LaSalle and 71 South Wacker.

Denver-Colo.-based SendGrid signed a lease for a 22,000-plus square-foot office at 400 Spectrum Drive in Irvine that will nearly triple its existing space. The landlord is the Irvine Co.

SendGrid, which currently has an office in Orange, has signed a lease at 400 Spectrum Drive, the new Irvine Company office tower under construction at Irvine Spectrum Center.

The Problem: As chief of staff to California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Susan Kennedy helped oversee a massive increase in the state’s renewable-energy capacity—and witnessed its unintended consequences. While solar power helped bring down the overall energy draw on the power grid during the day, demand surged in the evening, requiring utilities to run fossil-fuel plants for backup power.

Mazda has moved to its new home at 200 Spectrum Center Drive. The location, near the Irvine Spectrum, is about a mile away from Mazda North American Operations’ old headquarters.
